Serving at Holy Cross

Each week dozens of people just like you give their time to serve – and we call them ministers. Whether it’s making our liturgies happen, pitching in behind the scenes, or helping kids learn about God on their level, every volunteer minister is making a difference in our church.

Get Involved

You can help make a difference here at Holy Cross. Find contact information for our ministries below, or share your information here and we'll get you connected!

Altar Linens

Assist in the preparation, washing, ironing and proper folding of the Altar Linens used during Masses.

Altar Servers

What a great way to get your children involved! Students from fourth grade and up serve at Mass, weddings, special liturgical feasts and other celebrations.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

For children in Kindergarten to 3rd grade. Children are dismissed from Mass just before the Liturgy of the Word and gather in the chapel to hear the readings of the day in an age-appropriate format.  Provides young children an opportunity to experience the Word on their own level.  Offered Sunday at the 10 a.m. Mass.

Wine & cheese is served after the Saturday evening Mass and coffee & donuts are served after the Sunday morning Masses. Parishioners and visitors are welcome!  You can help out by picking up donuts, making coffee, serving drinks, or tidying up afterward. A great way to meet and socialize with other members of our parish family!

Eucharistic Ministers

Serving the Eucharist ...  what a privilege!   Eucharistic Ministers help to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ during celebration of the Mass.

Good Samaritan Ministers

Are you a Eucharistic Minister?  Can you spare the time to take the Eucharist to seniors at two local senior homes once a month on a Tuesday or Thursday?  Takes less than two hours and you will be overwhelmed with the gratifying smiles and genuine thanks you'll receive. or call Larry Russell at 774-3644 for more info.

Finance Council

The members of the Finance Council oversee the parish budget and ensure the financial viability of the parish.  This ministry is vital to the parish as it establishes new programs and responds to the needs of its people.

Got a few minutes before Mass?  Why not extend a warm greeting to all who enter our church. All you need is a smiling face to make people feel at home.  You just greet people as they arrive for Mass and distribute music books.

Hands of Christ (Meals for the Sick)

This group delivers meals to individuals coming home from the hospital, such as new moms or individuals not feeling well.

Hospital Ministry

All this takes is a phone call to Saint Vincent and UPMC Hamot on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to determine parishioners who have been admitted to these hospitals.  A list is compiled and sent to the parish office. Greeting cards are then sent to those hospitalized.

Lectors have an opportunity to proclaim God's word at all weekend liturgies, Holy Days and special celebrations.

Music Ministry

Get vocally, spiritually and musically fit with members of the Holy Cross Music Ministry. No experience needed; we’ll help stretch you into shape. Choir is open to teens and adults. (Kids of the Cross Music Ministry runs November-January). If you play an instrument, cantor, ring bells, or just enjoy singing, consider becoming a member of our music ministry.

Pastoral Council

The pastoral council plays a leadership role in directing and executing our Holy Cross mission.  New ideas are always welcome.

Prayer Chain

Be part of a group that brings the power of prayer to support special intentions.
